AIRCRAFT DEICING

Even though the technology has never been commercialized, the use of foam for airplane deicing has been suggested.  It is logical to conclude that a significant volume of glycols could be saved each winter season if the efficiency of a foam medium could be accommodated.  On the other hand, obtaining permission from the FAA, the plane builders, the airlines, and the airport authorities, coupled with a high risk financial liability, probably overwhelms the business opportunity.  See, however, the patent assigned to Shell:
